Pythagoras in 3D

Today, as a little extention for two of my brightest year 7’s I gave them a cube, and 5 minutes, and asked them to tell me the length of the diagonal. We were completing an end of unit level ladder on shape, and they had covered Pythagoras in 2 dimensions as part of the unit. They were both very close to working out the correct method, but each fell down slightly. I have left them pondering and hope they come back next lesson and let me know they have cracked it!
